The RHI Sports Program in conjunction with Michigan Sports Unlimited, Inc. hosted the 2011 USQRA Heartland North Regional Quad Rugby Tournament on February 18th through 20th and The SportZone. Quad rugby is a sport played by individuals that have an impairment in at least 3 our of 4 of their limbs. It is full contact played on a regulation size basketball court. With 8 teams from the midwest vying for 5 spots to move on to the sectional playoff round, the competition was fierce all three days. After two days of pool play, seeding was determined for the playoff format on Sunday. After some great games, the Minnesota North Stars faced off with the Michigan Storm for 1st Place. In a back and forth game, Minnesota had a thrilling comeback in the last minute to pull out the two point victory.
Indianapolis’ own RHI Indy Brawlers had a sensational tournament capping it off with a win over the Chicago Bears in the 3rd place game on Sunday. This was the Brawlers best finish in many years. Congrats to all the teams that advanced on to the next round!
If you missed your chance at seeing the exciting sport of quad rugby this time, please make sure to stay up to date with our newsletter as we usually host a tournament every year.
